Queensland Government delivers significant training initiative for new careers in the CSG-LNG industry
Worldwide Import-Export News Add commentsThe $10 million flagship training program announced by Queensland Premier Anna Bligh, and Education and Training Minister Geoff Wilson, is a major initiative that will assist Queenslanders to begin new careers in the Queensland coal seam gas (CSG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) industry.
The Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (APPEA) Queensland Director, Matthew Paull said this initiative will see the Queensland Government working in partnership with the industry to equip potential employees with the high technology skills required to work in the industry.
“The Queensland Government and our industry are committed to engaging local communities and sharing the new employment opportunities presented by the exciting growth of our industry,” said Mr Paull.
The proposed LNG projects in Queensland will be the world’s first to be based on CSG, and built on cutting edge technology and skills requirements.
“The CSG LNG industry will provide a range of highly skilled employment opportunities and this initiative is a real and practical way to create new highly skilled career pathways and maximise the economic benefit of these exciting new projects for local communities.
The need for an appropriately skilled workforce and high demand for labour are regularly identified as potential impediments to the growth of our industry.
Mr Paull said this initiative is a great example of the Queensland CSG sector and government working together in partnership to successfully meet the skills challenge.
“The CSG-LNG Industry Training Program announced by the Premier provides an essential part of the solution in providing workers with access to training so that they can gain the necessary and unique skills required to enter this expanding workforce,” said Mr Paull.
