The NSW Farmers’ Association’s Executive Council has voted unanimously to pursue the establishment of a national grain grower’s body made up of the State farming organisations.
NSW Farmers’ Association President Charles Armstrong says the Association wants a body that will represent the State farming organisation’s national grains policy.
“We need a body to develop appropriate processes for industry inclusion and policy development for Australian grain growers,” he said.’
“We have been very concerned that the industry has been without a sustainable national voice for some time,” he said.
“We have held some initial meetings with the other State farming organisations to discuss possible solutions, and the Association believes a body involving all groups is the best option.
The NSW Farmers’ Association acknowledges that the detail of the structure of this new grain grower’s body still needs to be determined.
Charles Armstrong says with so many issues facing the industry, a strong united voice at the national level is urgently needed.
“This National grower’s body needs to address issues such as grains marketing system, research and development, world grain markets and meeting Government requirements,” Mr Armstrong concluded.
